COME IN AND STAY AWHILE

Moved

In this poem written in the wake of George Floyd's murder, Kaylee Eisman wrestles with how to find union with her neighbors.

What do you desire from me Jesus?
In the light and darkness of George Floyd
Move me
Closer to my neighbor
Closer to my Black brother
Closer to my Black sister
And You
For in You, we are of one blood
Your red covers black and white
Help us turn from ourselves
Find union
Fight
Not with knees on necks
Or firearms and fists
But knees in the dirt
And foreheads kissed
With groans of lament
And hearts discontent
With how far
Our worlds are
From what they were meant to be
Cry with me
Struggle with me
Against more than just blood and flesh
Not our lives
But Black lives to cherish
