Hungry Ghosts: The Story of Charles McNair
A film about the lauded Southern novelist — and Salvation South contributor — Charles McNair.
Back in 2017, when I was editing another publication, my friend Charles McNair, a gargantuanly good novelist born in Dothan, Alabama, called me with an idea.
He was writing a novel called "The Epicureans," a tremendously tall tale about a group of uber-wealthy foodies who gather annually for a gruesome dinner. Charles wondered if I'd be interested in serializing that novel — publishing it one chapter a week until he was finished. I agreed.
Now, that book, in its final form, has been released in a beautiful hardcover edition by the Irish publishing house Tune and Fairweather. And thanks to the good folks this brilliant short film in which McNair talks about writing and tells some more tall tales as he visits his old stomping grounds in Dothan. We hope you enjoy the film, and below it, you'll find a way to order a copy of "The Epicureans" for yourself.
